One day common brown dog was walking along a dusty trail through the sunny Sierra Mountains. She walked closely behind her person as they crossed creeks and valleys, golden fields and shady groves. They came upon a small village. The people came up to greet them. They were very short people, compared to her person. They had never seen a dog before. They liked her very much, but they wished that she were smaller.
That night brown dog had a dream. The wise old woman that lives in the stars came to visit her and told brown dog that she would give birth to a litter of puppies of every shape and size to match the great diversity that made up the human population. She told Brown dog to share her puppies with the people, because they desperately needed their grounding guidance in every way. Brown Dog was happy to share and be helpful.
The next day Common Brown Dog gave birth to ten puppies. They were tiny and huge, longhaired and short haired, curly haired, soft and wire haired, black, white, red, yellow, brown, gray, silver, peach, striped, spotted, thin and wide, long and pug nosed, pointy ears and droopy ones, long tails and no tails. That is how come today there is so much diversity in the dog family.
