This is a very organized book written for instruction of middle/high school aged students. The primary objective of the book is to reinforce students understanding of the traits. The text is divided into six sections, one for each writing trait and a final section for a reference index. The book has many favorable attributes. The suggested lessons give clarity and detailed objectives based on published literature.
Many of the same books we read aloud to the classroom teach the six traits. Reading examples of fine detail, great hooks and conclusions, precise word choice and fluency, provide students with the reinforcement needed to understand the traits and implement these concepts into their own writing. Think aloud as you read aloud are good techniques to make a point. Bits and pieces can be magicalóand sufficient.
I recognized many titles enjoyed by elementary students. It is fun to read aloud one or two books or even just passages and compares descriptions that demonstrate what makes writing appealing. A writing assignment is not needed with every selection.
It teaches the traits with numerous readings of literature. Each suggestion provides the book title and author, along with the ISBN number; the genre and reading level is also provided. A summary paragraph illustrates key components of the passages in regard to the specified trait. This is followed by a writing lesson on ideas to approach the material.
It would be easy to access your school library and find out which books are quickly available. I recommend books of this type because of the user friendliness and quick access to the material desired. I also recommend Librarians take a look at these selections for future purchases.
