The Internet website I found particularly useful is called Marco Polo. It is a consortium of premier national education organizations, state education agencies and the Marco Polo Foundation dedicated to providing quality Internet content professional development to teachers and students. There are seven different content area websites supported by Marco Polo Content Partners. They are:

Artsedge-John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts

EconoEdLink-National Council on Economic Education

EDSITEment-National Association for the Humanities

Illuminations-National Council of Teachers of Mathematics

Read-write-think-International Reading Association

National Council of Teachers of English

Science NetLinks-American Association for the advancement of Science

Xpeditions-National Geographic Society

The read-write-think site may be of most interest language arts teachers.

It provides K-8 lesson plans in reading and writing and other language arts

content areas such as literature and poetry. It also provides hundred of links to on-line resources that can be used by students as well as teachers to enrich lessons and provide lesson resource material. In these days of shrinking budgets a site like this can save hundreds of dollars in materials
