Wacky Web Tales is a great site for kids who are struggling with learning parts of speech. It uses the Mad-Libs format where students fill in prompted parts of speech in a pre-written story. When the story is read, the story become funny because the words a student has chosen my not go with the theme of the story at all.
The site is produced by Houghton Mifflin, a reading publishing company, and is recommended for grades 3 and above. The site offers 13 different pre-made stories that kids can insert their own parts of speech. I think this site would work great once you have already taught parts of speech such as adjectives, adverbs, nouns, and verbs. Some of the prompts kids are asked to fill in also include past and present tense of the above parts of speech. If a student does not know these concepts yet, this site might be somewhat difficult.
This site not only could be used as a way to reinforce parts of speech, but also as a class project. Once students become comfortable with the format on the website, they could create their own Wacky Tales and then give their stories to other classmates to fill in the parts of speech. This could be done both on the computer and on paper. Overall, I would highly recommend this website to elementary school teachers because I feel it is a great way to teach basic skills in a fun way.
