Web Site Review: education-world.com
By Sandra Epperson
While I was searching the web for a site that I thought would be helpful, I came across Education World (http://www.education-world.com). This site has many resources for teachers that could be used at all grade levels, even though some seem elementary. There are ìWriting Bugs,î prompts, for each month. One might be to describe snow to someone who has never seen it before. Another is to decide which president the kids would like to interview and then to write the interview. There are ideas for many subject areas, but I only concentrated on the language arts ideas. There were also five-minute fillers to use for those last few minutes of class. One that I liked was to have a student come to the front of the room and have the class ìstudyî him for about one minute. Then he has to leave the room and change one thing and return to the room. The class has to determine what has changed. I think this activity could be used to teach writing descriptive detail. This site also has an ìEveryday Editî feature that is like a Daily Oral Language activity. There are lesson plans, learning games, and technology integration for all grade levels. Packed with practical ideas, this is a fun site to explore.
